Praised for her honest and realistic character portrayals, Canadian soprano Stephania Romaniuk has performed as a featured artist in Canada, Italy, and the United States.
Stephania recently premiered the role of Lisa Wallace in the new musical, Life Is, while serving as musical director for the production, as part of the 13th Annual One Act Play Festival at the University of Rochester.
She has been seen in such Eastman Opera Theatre productions as Lily (The Secret Garden), Miles (Turn of the Screw) and Frenchie (Cabaret).
Stephania has performed in Morpheus Theatre’s productions of HMS Pinafore and The Mikado, the latter of which earned her a Calgary-ACTS award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Yum-Yum.
Stephania recently began her upcoming debut season (2011-12) with the Cowtown Opera Company as a featured guest artist at the Cowtown Cabaret (February 2012).
Of Ukrainian heritage, Stephania avidly researches and performs art songs of Ukrainian composers, as well as the 1950's waltzes, fox-trots and tangos of favourite composer Bohdan Wesolowsky. She has performed at numerous Ukrainian events, including CYM Ukrainian Youth Organization national conferences and New Year's Eve galas. Stephania recently performed a recital with Calgary pianist Esther Bing in support of the Ukrainian Art Song Project.
A gifted recital artist, Ms Romaniuk enjoys collaborating with composers and performing new music, as well as writing her own works. Composed for the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor, or Great Famine, in Ukraine, her piece for voice and cello took first place in the 2008 Ukraine - A Musical Tribute competition. Stephania performed this work with cellist and Eastman colleague Michael Kaufman in Rochester, New York and Burlington, Ontario for commemorations of the Holodomor.
In addition to performing and composing, Stephania enjoys studying economics, painting with acrylics, and writing. She continues to be engaged as a guest artist for Ukrainian events in Canada and New York.
